Weather delays garden kickoff

The community garden program Grow to Share announced that it has rescheduled its seasonal-kickoff event to 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the community garden located in the eastern portion of Hoffman Park.

The event, first planned for the upcoming Earth Day weekend, brings together everyone interested in helping with or supporting the garden to dig in and prepare for planting as well as enjoy music, coffee and snacks.

GTS has also announced some new programs for the season.

It will offer educational opportunities 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every other Sunday, beginning with garden cleanup May 5. Any helpers should bring or wear boots. Grow to Learn classes for kids ages 2 through 5 run 9:30-10:15 a.m. starting May 8.

Weekly produce shares are available through GTS to anyone who qualifies for food assistance.
