Access to Care Fund to benefit from Saturday's Barn Dance

It's time to put on comfortable dancing shoes, enjoy great food, in addition to toe-tapping, foot-stomping music and the company of good friends at the River Falls Area Hospital Foundation's fourth annual Harvest Moon Barn Dance, Saturday, Oct. 3, at Westridge Farms, 526 Rolling Meadows Drive, in rural River Falls.

The evening begins with a BBQ chicken dinner available from 5:30-7:30 p.m., all for a free-will donation.

Then local musical favorite, Stampede, will provide entertainment from 7:30-11:30 p.m. Tickets for the dance are $25 in advance, available at the hospital, or $30 at the door.

The event also includes a silent auction and raffles held throughout the evening, and will benefit the foundation's Access to Care Fund.

"The Access to Care Fund supports programs that help people in our region access the health care services they need to get and stay healthy," said Heather Logelin, the foundation's executive director.

The proceeds from this year's event will be granted to the Free Clinic of Pierce and St. Croix Counties, to subsidize enrollment of patients eligible for Wisconsin's new BadgerCare+ Core Plan, a collaborative effort to promote and provide flu shots to low-income uninsured or underinsured individuals, and other programs working in our region to provide access to health care.

"River Falls Area Hospital is committed to working with our community partners to ensure that everyone in our region has access to health care services and programs," said Logelin. "The River Falls Area Hospital Foundation is pleased to again designate the proceeds of our annual Harvest Moon Barn Dance fundraiser to support these efforts."

Sponsorship opportunities are available, and donations are being accepted for the silent auction and raffle. Persons interested in making a donation are asked to call Logelin at 426-4503.

The event is planned by local volunteers Deb Brown, Mary Conroy-Johnson, Pam Deal, Julie Gore, Mary Johnson, Michelle Johnson, Polly Kleven, Donna Miller, Amy Scholz and Kelly Sylla.

More than 350 people attended the 2008 Harvest Moon Barn Dance, raising more than $75,000. The net proceeds of the event were granted to support the Free Clinic of Pierce and St. Croix Counties and the Pierce County Public Health Department's school-based dental clinics.

The River Falls Area Hospital Foundation, formerly called the Kinnickinnic Health Foundation, was established in 1978 to raise funds for River Falls Area Hospital and other local health initiatives.
