As temperatures go down, the cost of heating homes goes up. Some people in River Falls are having a hard time covering those costs, according to Ronna Ellis of the Assistance and Resource Center, Inc. (ARC), an organization that provides short-term financial assistance to River Falls and Ellsworth residents

The summer Kids Club and Opti-Club program is based out of the River Falls High School. Kids Club Supervisor Katy Killian said the kids are very busy and rarely are at the high school, instead they are on field trips, at Glen Park Pool or at the public library. The 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Friday program, has numerous options from 5-day to half-day options. River Falls painter Harold Henson suffered serious burns to both hands but survived a Dec. 19 fire that left his house at 212 S. Wasson Lane uninhabitable. Thanks to Harold’s efforts, his beloved dog Peanut got out alive. Three pet cats were not so fortunate. Harold’s wife of 17 years, Dr. Loretta Henson, a psychologist who offices at 123 W. Cascade Ave., was leaving work when told about the blaze.
