Grisar named firefighter of the year

River Falls Fire Department Firefighter of the Year, Dean Grisar holds his award by fire engine 7, the rig he is lieutenant of.

On Jan. 18, the River Falls Fire Department awarded Dean Grisar the Firefighter of the Year award. Grisar is the lieutenant of engine 7, as well as a firefighter instructor at Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC).

 Assistant Fire Chief Mike Moody said the Firefighter of the Year award started in 1977 after a child was rescued from a fire. He said past recipients of the award vote to pick each year’s honoree.

Moody said that some reasons that Grisar, a RFFD firefighter since 2000,are his work training new recruits, as well as his attitude and dedication.
