Track BRC, regional runner-up
Wildcat sophomore Amelia Kjos maintains a lead over New Richmond’s Maddie Kelly heading into the final 75 meters of the girls’ 400 meter dash Monday at the WIAA Regional meet in New Richmond. Kjos pulled away from Kelly to finish third with a time of 1 minute, 0.75 seconds and qualify for this Thursday’s sectional meet in Rice Lake.

Freshman lefthander James Witt has his glove knocked off his hand by a hard line drive on his first pitch of the first inning Thursday, May 10, at Hudson. Witt recovered to field the ball and throw to first for the out and went on to pitch five solid innings but the Cats fell to the Raiders, 4-1.

Loomis, Cats win BRC golf titles
Sophomore Garrett Loomis won his second straight Big Rivers Conference Player of the Year award and the Wildcat golf team’s second place finish was good enough to give them the overall BRC title at the BRC Tournament Thursday at Lake Wissota Golf Course in Chippewa Falls.

Futsal champions
The U13 Wildcat boys’ soccer team hosted an indoor futsal league this winter at the River Falls Academy with 43 participants, its best turnout ever. The league culminated with a championship game April 20.

Spring training
Student-athletes at River Falls High School are busy preparing for the upcoming spring season, and unlike last year, this year’s Wildcat teams have been able to do much of their preparation outside thanks to the mild late-winter weather. The temperature was 78 degrees Monday afternoon as sophomore Liam Danguer and his track and field teammates practiced their triple jump technique. The Wildcat track and field teams will go back inside for their first taste of competition this Saturday, March 24, at the Northern Badger Indoor Classic at UW-Stout’s Johnson Fieldhouse.

Wildcat girls advance to regional final
The eighth-seeded River Falls girls’ basketball team held off a late charge by No. 9 Sparta to post a 60-51 victory in a WIAA Division 2 semifinal Tuesday night in River Falls.
The Wildcats (13-10) advance to face top-seed La Crosse Logan (18-4) in the regional final this Friday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in La Crosse.

RF’s Claude wins state bars, all-around titles
River Falls junior Riley Claude won state championships on the uneven bars and in the all-around competition at the WIAA Division 2 State Individual Gymnastics Tournament in Wisconsin Rapids Friday night.
Claude and the rest of the Wildcats will compete for a WIAA Division 2 team title today.
