You know you live in a great town when there are very few things to complain about. But you dog owners, the ones who think there is a winter poop fairy who, after your dog does his job on the sidewalk or street, flies down and picks it up are mistaken.
The big chill that settled over River Falls this past weekend heaved the earth, splitting the side of a cast-iron water pipe eight feet beneath Ninth Street and prompting cancellation of Monday classes for Meyer Middle School students.
River Falls Police Chief Roger Leque said city street department crews would be in "full snow operations" mode, beginning around midnight Sunday and residents are urged to move vehicles off city streets if possible.
River Falls’ firefighters responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday to a fire in a harvested corn field along HWY. 35 near Radio Road.
The fire started behind a tractor working in the field and burned about a one-quarter mile swath of land along the east side of the field near the highway.

After beginning a major expansion and remodeling project in last June, the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 110 N. Third St., has finished its 12,500-square foot addition and invites the community to come see.
First Covenant Church, 1374 N. Main St., held a “Living Nativity” earlier this month where folks could drive through seven outdoor scenes manned by actors and animals, beginning with the angel telling Mary she’ll have a baby to the manger scene.
