Editor’s Note: By a stroke of luck, Pierce County Historical Association member Dan Geister found a rare 1870 plat map. The 38x54-inch map showing landowners at that time is the only known one in existence and the earliest found to date. The next earliest is the 1877-78 atlas.
It was one for the books when the Wildcat girls’ basketball team earned the first regional championship in the local history of that sport. Members of the team included Molly Baumgartner, Carlye Greene, Ashley Magee, Jackie Obermueller, Molly Schock, Abigail Brendum, Erin May, Katy Rohl, Jessica Bartelt, Christina Koehler, Katie Liddle and Sara Elling. First-year head coach Rita Hurtgen said they were playing as good as any team she’d ever seen.

The high school stock market team of Mike Pearson, My Vu and Nate VanBeek managed to earn over $180,000 in a 10-week contest, placing first among 165 teams in northwest Wisconsin. Lee Lueck, social studies advisor, got on their case early on and encouraged them to become active investors.
For the past two years Echo Viner, Ursula Peterson and Dan Geister have been working on a history of Beldenville, resulting in “Pierce County’s Heritage: Volume Nine.” Viner touched up photographs, Peterson edited and Geister wrote during what was a team effort.
