OATHS Award winners

The River Falls U14 boys’ soccer team earned the OATHS Award (Outstanding Ambassadors of Teams Honoring Sportsmanship) this season. Award winners are recognized by referees throughout the state as a model of championship behavior by displaying their respect, care and competence.

WIAA Regional soccer pairings announced

River Falls drew the No. 3 seed and will host No. 14 Superior, while Hudson is seeded 11th and will travel to No. 6 Rhinelander when the WIAA Division 1 boys’ soccer regional playoffs get underway Tuesday, Oct. 12. River Falls will host Superior at 4 p.m. at Wildcat Field while Hudson and Rhinelander also kick off at 4 p.m. in Rhinelander.

Booters streak to fifth straight win

The Wildcat boys’ soccer team pushed its winning streak to five straight Monday night with a 3-1 victory over Hudson in a game originally scheduled for last Thursday.

Celebrate soccer fields Saturday

The River Falls Wildcat Soccer association invites the public to a grand opening of the Golf View East soccer fields at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and cake for everyone.

Little Wildcat Soccer Camp in September

River Falls High School boys’ soccer coach Charles Conley and the Wildcat varsity will host the Little Wildcat Soccer Camp for boys and girls ages 4 and up Sundays, Sept. 12, 19 and 26, at the high school practice fields by the tennis courts.

More honors for Vitale

The honors keep piling up for Wildcat junior Sarah Vitale following her play during the 2010 girls’ soccer season. Vitale, who was previously named the All-Big Rivers Conference player of the Year, has been named to the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association All-State Second Team and recently earned the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram’s Player of the Year award. Vitale scored 15 goals and dished out 23 assists this season while helping lead the Wildcats to a record of 15-2-4 and the first BRC championship in program history.

Thunder star

Hart Shelton-Davies of River Falls (lower right corner) holds the American Flag at a recent Chicago Fire and AC Milan Soccer Game at Toyota Stadium in Chicago. His Minnesota Thunder Academy U12 East Team was on the field while participating in the Midwest Cup in St. Charles, Ill. His team went on to win the Midwest Cup U12 Boys’ Division. Hart generally plays left midfield. The Minnesota Thunder U12 East team includes representatives from the Twin Cities east metro area and the St. Croix Valley.

Local leads Woodbury

Croix Bopray of River Falls helped his U13 C1 Woodbury (Minn.) Royals soccer team win the Maplebrook Invitational Tournament June 4-6. Bopray, back row second from left, had two goals and an assist as the team went 3-0-1 for the tournament. The Royals began play with a 1-1 tie against Arsenal Futbol Club and a 2-0 win over Blaine (Minn.). In the semifinals they defeated the host team, Maplebrook, 3-1. In the finals the Royals had a rematch with the Arsenal Futbol Club, with the Royals coming out on top with a 3-0 score.

WIAA Girls Soccer: Cats fall in sectional final

Wausau East took a 3-1 halftime lead and the Wildcats were able to close the gap to 3-2 on Ella Bump’s second goal of the game in the second half, but that’s as close as River Falls could get in a WIAA Division 1 sectional final Saturday in Wausau. Wausau East (18-1-2) advances to face Verona (20-3-0) in a WIAA State Tournament quarterfinal game Thursday in Milwaukee while the Wildcats’ season comes to an end with a record of 15-2-4.
