Danke scores twice in two wins

Former Wildcat Hanna Danke recorded two goals and an assist as the UW-River Falls’ soccer team posted a pair of victories last week, 10-0 over Bethany Lutheran last Tuesday and 3-1 Sunday over Bethel.

One-two-three — bacon!

UW-River Falls junior defensive back Alex Adams, center, leads youngsters from the River Falls Youth Football Association as they yell “One-two-three —bacon!” and break a huddle after Adams and his teammates practiced with the group last Tuesday at Ramer Field. When Adams asked the kids what they wanted to yell they responded, “bacon!” This is the second straight year the Falcons have hosted the youth football players for a practice and autograph session. The UWRF football team had a bye last week but returns to action this Saturday by hosting UW-Stout under the lights at David Smith Stadium at Ramer Field at 7 p.m. It will be the first home night game for the Falcons since 2006.

The UW-River Falls women’s basketball team is giving youngsters the chance to interact with players and coaches each week this season while participating in drills, games and other fun activities through its Falcon Women’s Basketball Buddies and UWRF Basketball Lil’ Dribblers programs.

Ragnar Relay coming through this weekend

Ragnar Relay Great River, the 200-mile team relay that provides a scenic “run up the river” from Winona to Minneapolis along the Mississippi River, will send 324 teams and more than 3,400 runners through River Falls this weekend.

Feyereisen gets call from the Northwoods League

Fighting Fish to open WBA playoffs in Osceola

The 2012 Wisconsin Baseball Association playoff field is set and the defending state champion River Falls Fighting Fish earned one of eight No. 1 seeds and will travel to Osceola for the WBA semifinal round Aug. 11-12. The Fish will take on the Bruce Belters in a first round game Saturday, Aug. 11, at 5 p.m. at Oakey Park.
