The St. Croix Valley Fusion girls’ hockey team outshot Chippewa Falls 46-13 Thursday night in Baldwin but was only able to get two goals past Cardinals’ goaltender Kiara McChesney.
Fortunately, that’s all it needed.
A big factor in the St. Croix Valley Fusion’s success over the last few seasons has been the strength of its goaltending. And while starting goalie Devin Roen gets most of the accolades, fellow River Falls senior Gail Popelka plays an important role.
Alice Cranston scored three goals and Devin Roen posted her fourth straight shutout between the pipes as the St. Croix Valley Fusion girls’ hockey team ran its record to 9-0-1 with a 7-0 win over the St. Paul (Harding) Blades Tuesday night at Wildcat Centre.
Last year, the St. Croix Valley Fusion girls hockey team had to score four goals in the last few minutes to escape with a win at Chippewa Falls. Last Tuesday, the Fusion didn’t need such last-minute heroics.
Sophomore Alice Cranston had a hand in four of her team’s seven goals and senior goaltender Devin Roen recorded her fourth straight shutout, and fifth of the season, as the St. Croix Valley Fusion girls hockey team posted a 7-0 victory over the St. Paul Blades last Tuesday at Wildcat Centre.
