River Falls residents Kipkorir Kosgei, 24, and Liz Black, 30, led a field of 232 runners to win the men's and women's divisions in the annual River Falls Days 10K race, Saturday morning. Taking first in the two-mile race were Scott Bowman, 22 and Paige Skorseth, 15, both of River Falls.

UPDATE: Reaction, analysis follows failed River Falls school referendum

The Tuesday, April 5, election results are in and the unofficial tally shows the $39 million school district referendum was defeated by a relatively close margin with 2,805 voting no and 2,624 voting yes. The referendum passed in the city of River Falls 1,588-1,378, but was defeated decisively in all surrounding towns -- Clifton, Kinnickinnic, Martell, Pleasant Valley, River Falls and Troy.

River Falls finishes BR conference swim season behind Hudson, EC, CF

The River Falls swim team finished fourth at Saturday's Big Rivers Conference meet at Chippewa Falls behind Eau Claire, Hudson and Chippewa Falls and will send 16 swimmers to Saturday's sectional meet at Stevens Point.

UPDATED: River Falls officials update on plowing status, homeowner expectations

Scot Simpson, administrator for the City of River Falls, issued an updated statement mid-morning Sunday, advising River Falls residents of snow clean-up efforts and reminding homeowners in the vicinity of schools should have sidewalks cleared by 7 a.m., Monday, to assure safe passage by kids enroute to classes.

Donkey Basketball returns to River Falls

Two years ago, over 1,300 people packed the Meyer Middle School gym to watch local personalities display their skills in a Donkey Basketball Show. This January, the event returns to River Falls and will be held at the high school gym on Saturday, Jan. 22.

Ellsworth falls to River Falls

River Falls’ senior fullback Nick Zimmerman rushed for 255 yards and four touchdowns as the Wildcats picked up their first win of the season, 30-12, over Ellsworth Friday night at Ramer Field in River Falls. Zimmerman scored on runs of 24 and 54 in the first half to help stake River Falls to a 14-6 halftime lead and added a pair of 12 yard touchdown runs in the second half as the Wildcats pulled away.

Collin Rogers, Scott Bowman finish first in RF Days 2-mile, 10K

A River Falls threesome of Colin Rogers, Kyle Donovan and Nathan Walker claimed the first three places in the annual River Falls Days 2-mile race Saturday, while Scott Bowman amd Joel Weller, both 21 of River Falls, earned top A total of 471 people participated as organizers introduced new race courses for both events. River Falls Days goes retro

The annual summer festival River Falls Days kicks off Thursday July 8 and concludes Sunday July 11 with a fireworks display at dusk high over Hoffman Park. “We hope there’s enough variety that everyone can join in and have a good time,” said Chamber of Commerce Director Rosanne Bump. Kinnistock is a play on the famous 1969 music festival Woodstock.

Softball sweeps Stout The UW-River Falls softball team earned a WIAC sweep at UW-Stout Thursday afternoon. The Falcons won the first game, 7-2, and the second game, 4-3. UW-RF scored a run in the top of the seventh to get the win in the second game. The team’s non-conference doubleheader against Ripon was rained out on Saturday. The Falcons played a WIAC doubleheader at UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday and will play another conference twin bill at Ramer Field against UW-Superior Wednesday. On Saturday the Falcons play at UW-Oshkosh and on Sunday they are at UW-Whitewater. In last week’s 7-2 win over Stout, Rose Tusa started on the mound and got the win, working the first six innings and allowing two earned runs and five hits. Jessica Lundgren finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Patty Olson, Hayley Buchanan and Ashley Goettl were all 2-for-4. Buchanan had two RBI. In the nightcap, Buchanan led off the top of the seventh with a double down the left field line and Goettl followed with a double to left center to score Buchanan and give the Falcons a 4-3 victory. Tusa picked up the win in relief.

Fred Riehle, 91, dies Monday at Eagan, Minn.

Fred Riehle, former owner of the River Falls Motel and later, a repairman at Lund's Hardware and community volunteer, died Monday, April 19 at Caring Bridges of Eagan following a short illness. He was 91.

Wolf new RFHS football coach

There will new a new, but familiar, face on the sidelines for the River Falls High School football team beginning next season. Meyer Middle School physical education teacher and former Prescott coach Jason Wolf has been hired as the new head coach of the Wildcats, according to district activities director Rollie Hall.
