More honors for Vitale PressPass

More honors for Vitale The honors keep piling up for Wildcat junior Sarah Vitale following her play during the 2010 girls’ soccer season. Vitale, who was previously named the All-Big Rivers Conference player of the Year, has been named to the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association All-State Second Team and recently earned the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram’s Player of the Year award. Vitale scored 15 goals and dished out 23 assists this season while helping lead the Wildcats to a record of 15-2-4 and the first BRC championship in program history.

Four-year All-BRC PressPass

Four-year All-BRC Wildcat senior pitcher Lauren Cernohous capped her high school career by being named to the All-Big Rivers Conference Softball Team for the fourth straight season. Cernohous was named to the All-BRC Second Team for the second straight year this season after earning Honorable Mention as a freshman in 2007 and First Team honors as a sophomore in 2008.

WIAA Girls Soccer: Cats fall in sectional final PressPass

Wausau East took a 3-1 halftime lead and the Wildcats were able to close the gap to 3-2 on Ella Bump’s second goal of the game in the second half, but that’s as close as River Falls could get in a WIAA Division 1 sectional final Saturday in Wausau. Wausau East (18-1-2) advances to face Verona (20-3-0) in a WIAA State Tournament quarterfinal game Thursday in Milwaukee while the Wildcats’ season comes to an end with a record of 15-2-4.

WIAA Girls Soccer Sectional: Wildcats advance PressPass

The most successful season in the history of River Falls High School girls’ soccer continues. The Cats, already Big Rivers Conference and regional champions for the first time ever, are now within one game of reaching the WIAA State Soccer Tournament for the first time after defeating Eau Claire Memorial in a shootout Thursday, June 10, at Wildcat Field.

Cats shine at state track Wildcat senior Oscar White wrapped up his high school career by competing in the long jump at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse. White finished 20th in the event with a distance of 41 feet, 1.75 inches.

WIAA Baseball Sectional: Cats fall in extra innings PressPass

The Wildcat baseball team knocked off Wisconsin Valley Conference champion Stevens Point, 4-2, in a sectional semifinal Wednesday morning, June 9, in Marshfield, and took a one-run lead into the bottom of the seventh inning against Great Northern Conference champion Merrill in Wednesday afternoon’s sectional final before losing, 8-7, in nine innings.

Cats send three to state track PressPass

Senior Oscar White took second in the boys’ triple jump, junior Ethan Genco was second in the boys’ 1600 meter run and senior Kali Kramolis placed third in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles at the May 27 sectional meet in Wausau to all earn spots at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships June 4-5 in La Crosse.

Cats clinch first BRC soccer title PressPass

Cats clinch first BRC soccer title It might have been more fun to do it with a victory, but Thursday’s scoreless double-overtime tie with Menomonie was enough to give the Wildcat girls’ soccer team its very first Big Rivers Conference championship. The tie kept the Wildcats undefeated at 8-0-2 in BRC play, 12-0-3 overall, and earned them their first conference title in program history.
