For anyone wondering if the road construction project at Radio Road and Hwy. 35N., which includes extending Paulson Road to Radio, would require demolishing the River Falls welcome sign, the answer is NO.
Travelers of Hwy. 35N just outside of River Falls experienced a 15-minute road-closure mid-morning Wednesday, May 15, as crews from Xcel Energy strung new electrical cables as part of construction for the new interchange at Radio Road.
Authorities reopened eastbound I-94 just east of the Roberts exit about 10 a.m., Monday, just 75 minutes after a semi unit hauling utility poles strayed off the shoulder in a construction zone and overturned, spilling its load into a ditch and snarling traffic.
Information from River Falls and City Engineer Reid Wronski confirms that the South Main Street Concrete Rehabilitation project, announced in the Journal earlier this year and slated to start this summer -- has been postponed.
Journal readers last week noticed the front-page story detailing the March 1 two-car crash involving retired teacher and council member Dave Cronk on Hwy. 35N and Radio Road. Cronk was crossing the highway from Radio Road when he collided with a River Falls woman driving south on the highway.
Cronk was cited for failing to yield, but the crash is another reminder that Hwy. 35 is undergoing a much-needed transformation toward freeway status. What that means is, eventually, direct access to the highway from roads with stop signs — like Radio — will be history.
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on the 26th day of March, 2013 at 6:30 p.m., or soon thereafter as the matter may be heard, the Common Council of the City of River Falls will hold a Public Hearing for the purpose of receiving public input and opinion concerning the following resolution which involves the proposed discontinuance and abandonment of a public alley right-of-ways in the City of River Falls.
Blowing and drifting snow on top of a wintry mix made for slippery roadways the afternoon of Monday, Feb. 11, when around 3:15 p.m., a passerby reported a one-vehicle rollover accident on Hwy. 65, just north of Liberty Road, where a vehicle apparently skidded off the road and landed on its side.
