The city of River Falls offers residents the chance to discard their unwanted junk -- big and small -- at the annual Spring Cleanup event held May 13-18 at the Public Works Garage, 950 Benson St., in the north-end industrial park accessible from North Main Street and Quarry Road.
If spring-time should finally arrive, honey bee colonies start to build-up their numbers and if they run out of space in their hive, they swarm. The public should not be alarmed if they see or come across a swarm of honey bees. They are doing what honey bees do and are not remotely interested in humans. In fact before leaving their hive the bees fill up their stomachs with honey and are rather mellow; their sole intention is to find a new home to build-up a new colony.

After snowy weather forced the Kinnickinnic River Land Trust to postpone its annual spring cleaning event, the garbage-gathering activity was rescheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, April 27, starting in Glen Park, a day when weather forecasters call for about 60 degrees and no precipitation.
The St. Croix River Association will hold its annual Spring Gathering on May 14. Guest speaker will be local distinguished author, William Souder, who will share highlights of his new biography, “On a Farther Shore: the Life and Legacy of Rachel Carson.”
The St. Croix Community Development Department has joined with YMCA Camp St. Croix to host the ninth annual Earth Day event, “Soils: Dig It!” The event is Sunday, April 21, from noon to 4 p.m. at YMCA Camp St. Croix in Hudson.
The Kinnickinnic River Land Trust announced the morning of Friday, April 19, that due to the weather, it has postponed the annual cleanup event scheduled for Saturday, April 20. The tentative new date is Saturday, April 27.
