Wildcat runners match best finish ever

The Wildcat girls’ cross country team was hoping for another top-four finish at the state meet Oct. 29. For the second straight year, it got it.

Wildcat girls 4th at state cross country

The River Falls’ girls matched their best finish ever by placing fourth at the WIAA State Cross Country Championships Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids. The Cats finished with a team score of 202. Arrowhead won the girls’ Division 1 team title with 56.

Wildcats keep running

Runners get wet, wild

Seventeen high school cross country teams from Wisconsin and Minnesota kicked off the 2011 season at the River Falls Extreme Invitational Thursday in and around the South Fork of the Kinnickinnic River on the campus of UW-River Falls. Participants started on the UWRF intramural fields and proceeded along a course that included two trips through the South Fork.

Cats send three to state track

Senior Oscar White took second in the boys’ triple jump, junior Ethan Genco was second in the boys’ 1600 meter run and senior Kali Kramolis placed third in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles at the May 27 sectional meet in Wausau to all earn spots at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships June 4-5 in La Crosse.

Softball sweeps Stout The UW-River Falls softball team earned a WIAC sweep at UW-Stout Thursday afternoon. The Falcons won the first game, 7-2, and the second game, 4-3. UW-RF scored a run in the top of the seventh to get the win in the second game. The team’s non-conference doubleheader against Ripon was rained out on Saturday. The Falcons played a WIAC doubleheader at UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday and will play another conference twin bill at Ramer Field against UW-Superior Wednesday. On Saturday the Falcons play at UW-Oshkosh and on Sunday they are at UW-Whitewater. In last week’s 7-2 win over Stout, Rose Tusa started on the mound and got the win, working the first six innings and allowing two earned runs and five hits. Jessica Lundgren finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Patty Olson, Hayley Buchanan and Ashley Goettl were all 2-for-4. Buchanan had two RBI. In the nightcap, Buchanan led off the top of the seventh with a double down the left field line and Goettl followed with a double to left center to score Buchanan and give the Falcons a 4-3 victory. Tusa picked up the win in relief.
