The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA), in cooperation with Rural Mutual Insurance, has selected the River Falls High School gymnastics team as a winner of the team Sportsmanship Award for the 2013 winter state tournaments.
The River Falls gymnastics team won the Division 2 state title and Wildcat senior Riley Claude won state titles in the all-around and uneven bars for the second straight season at the WIAA Gymnastics Championships Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, in Wisconsin Rapids.
The tradition continues.
The Wildcat gymnastics team, under first-year coaches Rachel Paulson and Lauren Brathol, qualified for its 14th straight WIAA State Gymnastics Tournament Friday, Feb. 22 by finishing second at the sectional meet in River Falls.
The Wildcat gymnastics team has yet to field a full lineup this season due to injuries and illnesses, but that didn’t stop it from posting a season-high score in a close Big Rivers Conference victory over Eau Claire Jan. 24 and taking first place at the Jan. 26 Raider Invitational in Hudson.
The River Falls Gymnastics Club is now accepting registration for fall classes. Classes begin Sept. 4 and will continue until Nov. 4 for children age 18 months to 18 years old. There is still room for the club’s Aug. 20 summer camp as well. Register Online at www.riverfallsgymnastics.com.

High school activities director Rollie Hall couldn’t attend the March 4 reception for the state runner-up Wildcat gymnastics team, but in a written statement read by Wildcat head coach Shelly Kahut-Loomis, he reminded the team that there were 76 other high school gymnastics teams in Wisconsin that would have loved to bring home some hardware from last weekend’s WIAA state tournament.
River Falls junior Riley Claude won state championships on the uneven bars and in the all-around competition at the WIAA Division 2 State Individual Gymnastics Tournament in Wisconsin Rapids Friday night.
Claude and the rest of the Wildcats will compete for a WIAA Division 2 team title today.
The Wildcat gymnastics team posted its highest score of the season the night of Friday, Feb. 17, to wrap up its fifth straight undisputed Big Rivers Conference title at the BRC Tournament at Meyer Middle School.
