UW-RF football coach O’Grady says 2010 season will be his last

UW-River Falls football head coach John O’Grady informed his team after practice Monday evening that he will retire at the end of the 2010 season. The Falcons left Tuesday morning for their 2010 season opener Thursday at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

Rodewald finishes eighth in Falcon meet UW-River Falls junior Dan Rodewald heads down the final stretch in the men’s 400 meter dash final at the WIAC Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon at David Smith Stadium at Ramer Field. Rodewald, a former River Falls High School standout, finished eighth with a time of 51.79 seconds.

Nate DeLong, the all-time leading scorer in UW-River Falls basketball history, died May 5 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. He was 84. A gathering in DeLong's honor will be held at noon on Friday, May 14, at the Lumberjack Steakhouse in Hayward.

Softball sweeps Stout
The UW-River Falls softball team earned a WIAC sweep at UW-Stout Thursday afternoon. The Falcons won the first game, 7-2, and the second game, 4-3. UW-RF scored a run in the top of the seventh to get the win in the second game. The team’s non-conference doubleheader against Ripon was rained out on Saturday. The Falcons played a WIAC doubleheader at UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday and will play another conference twin bill at Ramer Field against UW-Superior Wednesday. On Saturday the Falcons play at UW-Oshkosh and on Sunday they are at UW-Whitewater. In last week’s 7-2 win over Stout, Rose Tusa started on the mound and got the win, working the first six innings and allowing two earned runs and five hits. Jessica Lundgren finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Patty Olson, Hayley Buchanan and Ashley Goettl were all 2-for-4. Buchanan had two RBI. In the nightcap, Buchanan led off the top of the seventh with a double down the left field line and Goettl followed with a double to left center to score Buchanan and give the Falcons a 4-3 victory. Tusa picked up the win in relief.

She's leading and she won! UW-River Falls senior Samantha Nyre leads the pack midway through the 100 meter hurdles final at the Falcon Invitational Saturday at David Smith Stadium at Ramer Field. Nyre won the event with a time of 15.44 seconds and followed that up with a first place time of 1:05.27 seconds in the 400 meter hurdles.
