Bowen to retire as UW-RF athletic director
UW-River Falls athletic director Rick Bowen announced Wednesday he will retire at the end of the 2009-10 school year. His last day will be June 21.
Bowen, 65, made the announcement at an athletic department meeting.
Bowen has been a key component of UW-RF athletics for more than 20 years as a coach and administrator.

Three UW-River Falls Army ROTC cadets competed in the Olympic-style military skills competition referred to as German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge last month at Camp Atterbury, Ind., in order to earn the Department of the Army award.

The UW-River Falls men’s hockey team defeated sixth-ranked St. Scholastica last Saturday night to earn a trip to the Peters Cup NCHA Tournament Championship game this Saturday night at St. Norbert.

Days Gone By
Now retired Chancellor Gary Thibodeau drops the ceremonial first puck at the first-ever women’s varsity hockey game at UW-River Falls’ Hunt Arena on Nov. 5, 1999, against Gustavus Adolphus. Local Olympic hockey star Karyn Bye is behind Thibodeau. The Falcons lost, but it didn’t dampen opening night festivities.
