A woman from the town of Clifton, Lidia Pavitova, 28, W 12286 820th Ave., was driving in St. Paul Monday, Jan. 30, about 4:40 p.m. when her car collided with a police squad car at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Ayd Mill Road.

Campus News: Jayne Esch and Evan Crayford

North American International Livestock Exposition LOUISVILLE — Jayne Esch, of River Falls, placed 1st overall in the collegiate dairy cattle judging contest held earlier this month in conjunction with the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville. Individually, Esch was also 1st in oral reasons, 1st in Jersey, 2nd in Guernsey, and 2nd Holstein. Esch was valedictorian of her graduating class at River Falls High School, a member of the Pierce County 4-H dairy cattle judging team, and is a student in her junior year at the University of Minnesota.

Helping the hungry

Local cartoonist Sketch Gustafson of Cartoons By Sketch Studios, along with his wife Shannon, were invited as vendors selling art and merchandise to help benefit the second annual Charity Con, held in Hastings, Minn., last month. The annual charity event has a “Star Wars” theme and collected enough food and cash donations from entrance fees and auction sales to provide over 6,650 pounds of food for the Hastings Food Shelf. When they aren’t working with Cartoons By Sketch Studios at events like this, Sketch drives a school bus for the River Falls School District, while Shannon works at H&F Home Furnishings on Hwy. 35N.

Hastings, Minn., man finds three-foot-long alligator in Mississippi River near Prescott

Derrick Radke and his fiancée were out for a relaxing weekend on the Mississippi River. They had boated to Prescott from Hastings and had pulled up to shore, where they were going to pitch a tent. That’s when Radke noticed what he thought was a muskrat swimming toward the shore.
