A neighbor saw heavy smoke billowing from a detached garage at 715 W. Walnut St. and called 911, bringing multiple fire trucks and at least a dozen firefighters to the scene to battle flames inside the structure.

Late Saturday afternoon River Falls police were dispatched to a trailer-court home at 1450 S. Wasson Lane to deal with a 23-year-old man at his girlfriend’s who was threatening suicide. Witnesses said the man had fired a 40-caliber S&W handgun in the driveway. He later reportedly put the gun to his head.

The National Weather Service offers free classes for citizens to become certified as an NWS Skywarn Storm Spotter. The class is open to all types of “students” – citizens, ham radio operators, police, fire EMS, medical staff, emergency managers and helps people recognize dangerous weather.
