River Falls police arrested a 23-year-old Grantsburg man for substantial battery and a break-in after 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, on South Main Street. The male suspect taken into custody is black. He claimed another man followed him from behind as he was walking and taunted him with a racial slur.

River Falls’ firefighters responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday to a fire in a harvested corn field along HWY. 35 near Radio Road. The fire started behind a tractor working in the field and burned about a one-quarter mile swath of land along the east side of the field near the highway.

A man charged with killing his three daughters at his ex-wife’s home in River Falls is now accused of trying to burn that house down. An attempted arson charge was filed this week in St. Croix County against Aaron Schaffhausen, 35.
