Board rejects closing county nursing home at New Richmond
The St. Croix County Board of Supervisors rejected a move to close its nursing home facility in New Richmond and passed a resolution to build a new one in a marathon meeting Tuesday. Supervisors Daryl Standafer, Tim Hood, Fred Yoerg, Buck Malick, Chris Kilber, Richard Ottino and Tom Hawksford voted to close the facility but the resolution passed by a 12-7 margin.

Valerie Sowa has been selected for the Head of School position at Heartland Montessori School. Sowa has been serving as the Interim Director for the school since December, 2011. She has recently completed the Assistant/Administrator Training offered by the Montessori Training Center of Minnesota this summer and has been involved in Montessori education for the past 11 years as a board member and alumni parent.

A funeral service for Joseph C. Janisch, rural Ellsworth, who died early Monday, Sept. 17th in a construction accident along I-94 near Menomonie, is set for 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth. Janisch, a father of four, was a dairy farmer and avid hunter and fisherman.
