Fish feast on familiar foes
Veteran Fighting Fish catcher Joel Schaffer watches his two-run home run head towards the high school soccer practice fields deep beyond the right field fence in the sixth inning of the Fish’s St. Croix Valley Baseball League game against the Hudson River Rats Saturday, June 23. Schaffer’s bomb gave River Falls an 11-4 lead as the Fish went on to close out the River Rats, 14-4, in seven innings.

Wildcat senior infielder Hayley Heschke was named to the 2012 All-Big Rivers Conference Second team for the second straight season by the conference coaches. Also honored for the second straight year was teammate and classmate Masy Engel, who received All-BRC Honorable mention to the 2012 team.

Wildcat sophomore Amelia Kjos maintains a lead over New Richmond’s Maddie Kelly heading into the final 75 meters of the girls’ 400 meter dash Monday at the WIAA Regional meet in New Richmond. Kjos pulled away from Kelly to finish third with a time of 1 minute, 0.75 seconds and qualify for this Thursday’s sectional meet in Rice Lake.
