Suspects learn: Hiding is futile
A handful of underage college students tried hiding from River Falls police sweeping an apartment at 215 W. Cascade Ave. after midnight Saturday, April 27. Officers had responded to a large party noise complaint. Those students who showed themselves were warned and released. Those found hiding in various rooms were given drinking citations.

Wild Side: enjoying a regular winter
The snow stopped falling in the morning on Valentines’ Day, some blue sky appeared between the clouds and the trees sparkled with a new coating of snow. After a breakfast watching the birds at the feeder we put on snowshoes and hiked around.

A 911 emergency call brought the River Falls Ambulance to a rental house at 122 ½ W. Cascade Ave. after 2 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19. There, an unresponsive 23-year-old man was found. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Days Gone By: Feb. 8, 1996
Editor’s Note: The winter of 1996 was a particularly grueling one for River Falls. Schools had been closed several times due to rain, snow and ice storms blanketing the region in January, motorists were stranded, road crews worked around the clock, ditches were full of snow so there was nowhere for more to go, and in the latest cold snap, residents were without power — even gas pipes broke. The following are recollections printed in the River Falls Journal during that time. Two new weather records were reached when the mercury hit 32-below one night and 35-degrees below two days later on Friday, Feb. 2.

Cascade Ave., to Dick Jones-Witthuhn, who will be moving his Kinni Croix Veterinary Hospital there; Joe Karras started Karras & Associates, a remodeling business, at 215 N. Second Street; River Falls Chamber of Commerce was settling into its new location at 214 N. Main St.; and Express Loans opened shop at 703 N. Main Street.
