The River Falls Optimist Club offered the first ever bean bag tournament for this year’s River Falls Days. From left, second place finishers Sam Johnson and Pat Johnson, first place Vince Thomley and Chad Eckman, and third, Brett Eckman and Nick Anderson. Half of the money raised went to the Optimist club for programs to support area youth programs. JULY 18, 2002 — Theme for the 2002 River Falls Days was the “Kinni Runs Through It.” After taking a year off, pageantry came back with “Ambassadors” of River Falls in 2001, rather than “Miss River Falls.” Candidates this year included, from left: Tyleah Strusz, Trista Struve, Gabrielle Meyer, Holly VanDynHoven and Kayla Erickson. Struve and Meyer were chosen as 2002 River Falls Ambassadors. Medallion finder was sixteen-year-old Tony Jenkins, who found it near the Kinnickinnic at the site of the old Cedar Street bridge.
