Charlie Jerry, a 5th grader at Westside Elementary, recently competed at the North Valley Gymnastics Invitational in Phoenix Ariz., with his team from Hastings Gymnastics in Minnesota. Jerry placed in the top five in all five events and was fourth in the all-around competition. There were 72 gymnasts from all levels competing.

Fusion hockey, Wildcat gymnasts returning to state
The St. Croix Valley Fusion girls’ hockey team and the Wildcat gymnastics team will both look to defend their state championships after winning sectional titles the weekend of Feb. 26-27. The gymnasts won their sectional meet in River Falls by over 14 points Feb. 26 while the Fusion defeated Hayward/Spooner, 5-2, in the sectional championship game in Chippewa Falls.

Rising star
Raina Albores, a 4th grade student at Westside Elementary School, recently earned the score necessary to compete in the Minnesota State United States Gymnastics Association Level 5 Compulsory Meet. There were 90 gymnasts of all ages who qualified in her session and she took fourth in the all-around with a score of 37.30 and third on floor with a 9.475. Albores then moved up to Level 6 and competed in the last meet of the year where she took first in the vault, second on floor, and fifth on beam at the Winterfest meet in Woodbury, Minn.

Henry competing at World University Games
Former Wildcat gymnast Allie Henry is representing the United States this week as a weightlifter at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China. Henry, a 2007 graduate of River Falls High School who helped the Wildcat gymnastics team win two state championships, is making her second appearance as a member of Team USA at the World University Games. She won a bronze medal in 2009 in her World University Championship debut in Taichung City, Chinese Taipei.
