Veteran Fighting Fish catcher Joel Schaffer watches his two-run home run head towards the high school soccer practice fields deep beyond the right field fence in the sixth inning of the Fish’s St. Croix Valley Baseball League game against the Hudson River Rats Saturday, June 23. Schaffer’s bomb gave River Falls an 11-4 lead as the Fish went on to close out the River Rats, 14-4, in seven innings.

The 2012 Wisconsin Baseball Association playoff field is set and the defending state champion River Falls Fighting Fish earned one of eight No. 1 seeds and will travel to Osceola for the WBA semifinal round Aug. 11-12. The Fish will take on the Bruce Belters in a first round game Saturday, Aug. 11, at 5 p.m. at Oakey Park.

A total of 84 golfers, including the River Falls Fighting fish mascot, turned out for the 6th annual Ugly Shirt Open Saturday morning at Kilkarney Hills, hosted by the Fighting Fish and the River Falls Baseball Council. The event raised just under $5,000 for the new community ballpark project.
