Foreign mining companies including two of the world’s most powerful, Britain’s Anglo American and Rio Tinto, are planning to dig Pebble Mine, one of the largest open-pit mines at the headwaters of Bristol Bay, Alaska. Colossal earthen dams up to 50 stories high built in a known earthquake zone are supposed to hold back some 10 billion tons of mining waste mixed with cyanide, sulfuric acid, arsenic and other toxic chemicals.

The River Falls Optimist Club offered the first ever bean bag tournament for this year’s River Falls Days. Half of the money raised went to the Optimist club for programs to support area youth programs. Hwy. 35 crash results in injury, citation
The commute home to River Falls at the intersection of southbound Hwy. 35 and Radio Road was slowed late Tuesday afternoon, May 14, by a car vs. motorcycle collision. The injured motorcyclist, Michael D. Fisher, Jr., 33, Hammond, was heading south toward River Falls when a 1996 Honda Accord driven by Katie L. Anderson, 20, River Falls, allegedly failed to yield from a stop sign while pulling out from Radio Road.
