  • Residents dropped off materials that varied from construction debris and old furniture to broken lawnmowers and discarded household fixtures. Asked about the most unusual item(s) she’s seen someone bring, Veolia Office Manager Lee Johnson, said pianos. Though there were none this year, she’s seen at least three come through cleanup lines; people can bring them but only if the strings have been removed and the instrument is broken into parts. Here, resident Kevin Black helps unload material from his trailer.
  • City residents could pull through the line and unload lots of different kinds of waste for free -- others items cost a disposal fee, for example $25 for a tanning bed with the bulbs removed.
  • The city’s contracted garbage hauler, Veolia, staffed the cleanup event, establishing one entry and one exit point. Cars could pull forward beside the dumpsters and helpers would unload the unwanted items from their trunk, truck bed, back seat, trailer. River Falls holds two cleanup events each year -- one in the spring and on in the fall, starting the third Monday in October and keeping the same hours as the spring event: 4-8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.
