The Honor Guard from the River Falls American Legion traveled around town by bus to commemorate Veterans Day at each of the schools.

  • Chancellor Dean Van Galen spoke briefly to the crowd at UW-River Falls gathered to honor military veterans. Van Galen said there are 175 veterans attending school on the campus.
  • UW-River Falls honored veterans who've made the ultimate sacrifice by placing 6,200 small American flags on the lawn of the University Center on campus. People had placed memorial signs among the flags, and throughout the day, read all 6,200 names of those who've died serving their country.
  • Army Maj. Clint Ronnestrand spoke to the crowd gathered at Meyer Middle School.
  • Veterans of all ages and eras greeted each other at the day's events -- usually with a handshake and knowing smile of respect.
