Dennis F. Johnson, age 84, of River Falls, died peacefully Thursday, March 14, at the Kinnic Health and Rehab in River Falls.
He was born on March 2, 1929, to Elmer and Flossie (Taylor) Johnson in Eagle Bend, Minn. He married Alice Claseman on Sept. 29, 1951. They lived on the family dairy farm for 50 years and raised a loving family.
Dennis was very active in the community, serving for many volunteer organizations. He also served as Todd County commissioner for 4 years and as a school board member for both Carter School District and Eagle Bend School District. He was instrumental in founding the local chapter of the Lions Club.
He is remembered for his gentle demeanor, sense of humor, and passion for farming as much as golf (although he was a lot better at farming.)
He was preceded in death and welcomed with open arms by his infant daughter Karen Lee; parents; sisters Bernice Runge and Dorothy Nelson; and son-in-law Bill Grones.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Alice; sister, Shirley (Ernie) Schlichting; children Janet (Fred) Schneider, Barbara (Lenny) Katterhagen, Mark Johnson, David (Theresa) Johnson, and Mary (Jeff) Parsons; grandchildren Gary (Katie), Aric, Ben (Beth), Chris (Amy), Sara, Anna, Max, Fiona, Celestine, and Mara; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan, Kendal, Andrew, Veronica, Brendan, Cora, Hayley, Darrius, D'ante, and a new baby great-grandchild expected soon.
A memorial service for Dennis will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in River Falls. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the Mass. Burial will be at a later date.
