William "Bill" Donais of River Falls, Wis., passed away Feb. 16 from a stroke in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Bill was born at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis., on May 20, 1950, to Gloria and Earl Donais. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1968 and earned his accounting degree from UWEC. After college, Bill went to work for Bauman Associates accounting firm in River Falls. Eventually, he became the tax manager and, after 39 years, retired in 2012.
An ideal citizen, receiving joy from taking an interest in the welfare and progress of his community and fellow man, Bill was very involved in his community as president of the Red Wing Social Singles; a board member and treasurer of St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity; River Falls Singles; a board of directors member and treasurer of the River Falls Chamber of Commerce, receiving honors in 2012; a member of the Lions Club; a member/volunteer of Have A Heart; a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs; a contributor of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation Blugold Promise Scholarship program; and a board of directors member/treasurer for the River Falls Library Foundation.
A quiet and private man, Bill was kind, considerate, and thoughtful of others amongst us, setting a caring example even in his death as an organ donor. He loved golfing, traveling, and his job. Bill had many, many wonderful friends and co-workers. He will be sadly missed, especially by his family. Bill was an intelligent and compassionate man and was respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His career, life, and service will be thought of with gratitude, and he will be remembered as a humble and noble man to the end. The world is a better place for such as he.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Earl Donais; sister Jean Marie; niece Kelly Thompson Crotteau; and his grandparents.
Survivors include his mother, Gloria Donais; sister Diane Strenke; nieces Amy Thompson Hart, Shana Thompson, Kirsten Thompson; great-nephews, Christopher Crotteau, Aaron Crotteau, Tyler Crotteau, Justin Peterson Hart, Tanner Hart, Conner Hart, Jaxon Conro; and great-niece, Skyann Nylen. A special thank you to Becky, Bev, and Yvonne for being such great friends.
Visitation will be at St. Bridget Church Fellowship Hall in River Falls from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 2. Please send any memorials donations to River Falls Public Library in Bill's honor. Burial will be at a later date at Lakewood Cemetery in Eau Claire.
