James H. Schwalen, 88

James H. Schwalen, age 88, of River Falls, Wis., formerly of Roberts, Wis., passed away on Jan. 6 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.

James H. Schwalen, age 88, of River Falls, Wis., formerly of Roberts, Wis., passed away on Jan. 6 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.

He was born on Nov. 24, 1924, to Henry and Marsha (Parker) Schwalen in Baudette, Minn. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. Jim was a lifelong farmer in the Roberts area. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He was an avid magazine and newspaper collector.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clifford; and special companion Ruth Aanonson.

He is survived by his son, Frank (Rosemary) Paulich Sr. of Eau Claire, Wis.; grandchildren, Frank (Sheila) Paulich Jr. and Christine (Joe) Solberg; great-grandchildren, Katie Paulich, Mark and Ashley Solberg; cousins Pat Delander and Marion Swanson; and special family friend Karen Engel.

A funeral service for Jim will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls, with the Reverend Mark Hall officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home in River Falls, and for 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in the German Settlement Cemetery, Hudson, Wis.
