Dallas Virgil McGinley, age 80, formerly of Hudson, Wis., died on Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Charter House Assisted Living Community in Rochester, Minn.

Dallas was born Dec. 7, 1931, in Hammond, Wis., to parents Virgil and Gladys (Swenson) McGinley. He was a graduate of Hudson High School with the class of 1949. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 4 years after high school. He was united in marriage to Shirley Place on Oct. 24, 1959, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Beldenville, Wis. Their union in marriage was blessed with two sons, Michael and Steven.

Dallas worked as an engineering standards draftsman for the 3M Company, retiring in 1991. Outside of work, Dallas loved being outdoors. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, landscaping, camping, canoeing, walking, and photography. He and his wife were fortunate to be able to travel and share many joys in life. After retirement, he and Shirley moved to rural Birchwood, where Dallas did much of the construction and finish work on their retirement home. He lovingly cared for his wife, Shirley, during her 10-year battle with cancer. Shirley died in 2000. After Shirley's death, Dallas moved to River Falls. In the last year of his life, he moved to the Charter House Assisted Living Community in Rochester to be closer to family. Dallas was a loving husband and father, and a truly devoted grandfather to his five grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

Dallas was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his brother Daryl McGinley; sister, Shirley Johnson; and his parents.

He is survived by his two sons, Michael (Kathi) McGinley of Fort Collins, Colo., and Steven (Lisa) McGinley of St. Charles, Minn.; his five grandchildren, Morgan, Nathan, Sean, Iris, and Leo; and his brother Don McGinley of Hudson.

Burial will take place at the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church, and also from 4-7 p.m. Friday evening at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.
