Donald Elden Olson, age 82, of River Falls, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sept 12.

Donald Elden Olson, age 82, of River Falls, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sept 12.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1930, in Hibbing, Minn., to Stanley and Gladys Olson. The family moved to the Bagley area in the 1930s where he grew up and went to school. In 1948, he joined the Army Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1951.

He then went to work for Great Northern Railroad and Telegraph and later worked for Boyer Electric doing plumbing and heating.

He married Corene Steinke in 1956, and they moved to Silver Bay, where she taught school and he worked for Reserve Mining Company as a pipe fitter and plumber. In addition, he was a school bus driver for 14 years. They lived in Silver Bay until 1972 when they moved to Bagley. They lived there for 9 years until they moved to the family farm in Solway. There, he farmed and raised beef cattle and collected old tractors. They left the farm in 2006 and moved to River Falls to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

He was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bagley for 34 years. He later joined Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church when they moved to Wisconsin. Donald enjoyed fishing with his close friends and spending time at the cabin and on the farm.

He is survived by his wife, Corene; children, Lori (Phred) Nelson of Balsam Lake, Wis., Craig Olson of Owatonna, Minn.; grandchildren, Emily, Hannah, and Stella; and many other family and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Stanley and Vernon; and numerous aunts and uncles.

A memorial service for Donald will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in River Falls. Friends are invited to the visitation which will begin at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Memorials are preferred to Feed the Children and the Arbor Day Foundation.
