James E. Johnson, 67

James "Jimmy" Edward Johnson, 67, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Aug. 7.

James "Jimmy" Edward Johnson, 67, was born in Baldwin, Wis., on May 30, 1945. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Aug. 7, 2012.

He graduated from River Falls High School in 1963. Over the years, he held various manufacturing positions, including Armour's Meat Packing Plant in South St. Paul, Andersen Window Corporation in Bayport, Transtar Trucking in Walpole, Mass., and retired from Leviton in Warwick, R.I., in 2001. He relocated back to River Falls at that time.

He was an avid sports fan, loved to play cards both with family and at a casino, and enjoyed bowling and watching TV. His main focus, however, was his family - three children, eight grandchildren, and seven siblings - as family was always so important to him.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Irene (Scott) Johnson.

He is survived by his children, Shelly Tavares of New Richmond, Steven Johnson of Northville, Mich., and Chad (Jennifer) Johnson of Oakland Township, Mich.; his eight grandchildren, Dezerae Kazarian (Hudson), D.J. Kazarian (New Richmond), Tim Johnson (Greensboro, N.C.), Sabrina Johnson (Fall River, Mass.), Nate Tavares (New Richmond), and Nellie, Boston, and Axl Johnson (Oakland Township, Mich.); siblings, LeRoy (Judie) Johnson of Rice Lake, Donna Deiss of River Falls, Alice (Mike) Cernohous of River Falls, William (Debbie) Johnson of Amery, Cheryl Johnson (Doug Struemke) of River Falls, Ron (Vicky) Johnson of River Falls, and Debbie Johnson (Mel Manthey) of River Falls. He is also survived by aunts Violet Scott (Lakeland, Minn.) and Joyce Scott (Cumberland, Wis.) and uncle Herman Johnson (Cromwell, Minn.) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A "Celebration of Life" memorial service honoring Jimmy was held at the River Falls Golf Club at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.

Cashman-Hill Funeral Home & Cremation Services of River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
