Effie V. Tobiassen, 93

Effie V. Tobiassen, age 93, of Eau Claire, Wis., formerly of River Falls, passed away on May 21 in Eau Claire.

Effie was born in New Folden, Minn., on Sept. 21, 1918. She was the youngest of eight children born to Tobias and Ane (Jensen) Tobiassen who were Danish immigrants.

She was preceded in death by seven sisters and brothers, Ingaborg, Jens, Hans (Peter), Marie, Stanley, Sylvia, and Stella.

She is survived by one niece, Ane Lund and her husband, Douglas Lund of Minneapolis, Minn.; one nephew, Donald Andersen of Miami, Fla.; and 14 grandnieces and nephews and many great-grandnieces and nephews.

Effie graduated from River Falls High School in 1936 and attended the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. She taught rural schools in Pierce County for 5 years then became a social worker and was employed by Pierce, Polk, Monroe, and Eau Claire Counties in Wisconsin, retiring in 1980. She lived at Dove Health Care in Eau Claire for the last few years of her life.

Effie was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt who was cherished by her family. She was known to all her friends as Toby - and with friends and family she loved to play cards, travel, fish, and enjoy the occasional beer. She was always cheerful, had no complaints, and was full of life and joy. She had a special spot in her heart for her two "grandchildren," James and Virginia Pierson, who loved her deeply and called her Gramma Toby, a title she was very proud of.

Effie will be missed by all who knew her ~~~ for we that knew her, loved her ~~~ and are all the better for having had her in our lives.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home located at 225 S. Third Street in River Falls. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in River Falls. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services.
