LaMoyne Smothers, age 95, of Hudson, passed away peacefully on Nov. 29 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson.

LaMoyne was born Jan. 23, 1916, in Bloomfield, Iowa, to parents Holly and Emma May (Small) Smothers. Like many of his generation, LaMoyne attended country grade school in Bloomfield through the 8th grade. In his early years, LaMoyne worked on the family farm. In 1936, LaMoyne was united in marriage to his first wife, Catherine Enlow, who passed away in 1954. Their marriage was blessed with two children. He moved to Hudson in 1960. On June 24, 1960, LaMoyne was united in marriage to Ruth Erika Forester at the United Methodist Church of Hudson. Their union was blessed with two children and three stepsons. At this time, he began his employment with Honeywell, where he worked for 22 years, and retired in 1982. LaMoyne was a dedicated custodian for 35 years for the Hudson United Methodist Church.

He loved the outdoors and hunting small game, especially pheasant and duck. He cherished his time with his family, and his children have special memories of him watching the Ralph Emery Show with Shotgun Red. In his earlier years, LaMoyne enjoyed playing board games, cards and solitaire. While at the Christian Community Home, he appreciated being a part of new activities such as volleyball, pool, bell and vocal choir. LaMoyne had a lot of patience and did not let worries overwhelm him. He was always there to help, often times putting others first. LaMoyne was not a man of many words, but he had a quick wit and the ability to get others laughing.

LaMoyne is survived by his loving children Sandra Carpenter of Des Moines, Iowa, Gene T. Forester of River Falls, Ron D. Forester of River Falls, Art G. (Cheryl) Forester of Hudson, Louie L. Smothers (Sue Reil) of Stillwater, and Juli M. Smothers of Hudson; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
