The wording of your last two sentences is common wording in victim blaming statements (ie. where where her friends, she was asking for it, alcohol caused her to pass out, look how she was dressed...) And yes, I'm assuming from the wording in the article (concerning his arrest and jail time) that the police had enough to go on regarding occurence of assault. It also does not implicitly state that alcolhol was imbibed by either party. And there are ways of proving what happened, be it admission of a guilty party in the end, or physical proof of some sort (bruising, torn clothing, dna...). I'm sorry if I misread the intent in your original statements. The sadest thing of all is that this girl may have believed that this boy was her friend, and whatever the outcome, it will be a difficult period of time for all involved.

Please do not blame the victim of a sexual assault for being victimized! She's young at 20 and perhaps she believed that this man was a friend who could take care of her. And yes, alcohol may have played a role, but don't use that as an excuse for the actions of another adult. Victim blaming doesn't help anyone.
