On the Wild Side: A fallen giant
The big basswood south of our house was the tallest tree in the valley. It dominated our view from the house and we enjoyed watching the tree as the seasons changed. It looked vaguely like a tree in a Dr. Seuss book with zig-zag and drooping branches. It had a canopy that towered over the neighboring white oaks. The tree top must have offered a magnificent view because birds were often perched way up there.By: Dan Wilcox, outdoor columnist, River Falls Journal
