She won a bronze medal in 2009 in her World University Championship debut in Taichung City, Chinese Taipei.

The World University Games (WUGs), also known as the Summer Universiade, is held every two years under the auspices of FISU, the International University Sports Federation. The WUGs are second in size only to the Olympics, so it is often nicknamed “Small Olympics.” They comprise of 13 compulsory sports and up to eight optional sports (which are determined by the relevant host country).

The WUGs are staged in various cities throughout the world. The event was first officially held in 1959 and the 26th World University Games are being held in Shenzhen from Aug 12- 23.

Henry is scheduled to compete in the women’s 69 kilogram weightlifting competition on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Henry began weightlifting at River City Ironworx and Community Fitness Center when it was the River Falls Fitness Center after graduating from high school in 2007. She placed third overall at the 2009 USA Weightlifting Junior Nationals in Foster City, Calif., in just her fifth weightlifting competition as a student at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Two summers ago she transferred to the U.S. Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University on a full scholarship. She won a bronze medal in July 2009, in her World University Championship debut in Taichung City, Chinese Taipei, and won a National Collegiate Title last April in Shreveport, La.

A senior at Northern Michigan, she was named to the USOEC All-Academic Team last winter for her work in the classroom.
