Johnson ties for 5th at State Open

Neil Johnson of River Falls turned in the best final round of the day Wednesday with a 65 to move up 41 spots on the leaderboard and finish in a three-way tie for fifth place at the 91st Wisconsin State Open at Meadow Valley Course at Blackwolf Run in Kohler.
Johnson entered the final day of the 72-hole tournament tied for 46th place at 9-over par 153. He turned in a 3-under par 69 Wednesday morning before posting the best score in the 69-player field with a 6-under-par 65 in the afternoon round.
Johnson finished with a 72-hole total of 1-under-par 287 (77-76-69-65).
River Falls’ native Tyler Obermueller moved up eight spots to finish in a four-way tie for 21st place. He was at 6-over par 150 (74-76) after the first two rounds and posted scores of 73 and 74 Wednesday to finish with a 72-hole total of 9-over-par 297.
Eighteen year-old amateur Jordan Niebrugge of Mequon won the State Open title with a 6-under-par 282 to finish one stroke ahead of Patrick Duffy of Appleton. Niebrugge, an Oklahoma State recruit, is the youngest winner of the Wisconsin State Open since 1948.
