A police department in the Fox Valley is shocked that no one has claimed a vital and expensive lost-and-found item – a prosthetic leg.

A woman found the leg in her neighborhood in Menasha early the morning of Aug. 15. She had no idea who it belongs to – so she gave it to the police.

Officer Aaron Zemlock said the leg has a black shoe at the bottom, and it is the most unusual lost-and-found item he’s seen in his 15 years on the police force. He assumes the leg is vitally important to the owner, especially since it would cost several thousand dollars to replace it.

Police are not sure if the leg was stolen, misplaced, or just tossed out. Zemlock said his officers will not investigate unless somebody comes forward and reports the leg missing. Anyone with information should call the Menasha Police Department.
