Ellertson honored at Finlandia

HANCOCK, MICH. — Senior Alisha Ellertson of River Falls is one of three members of the Finlandia University women’s hockey team who were recently honored by the American Women’s Hockey Coaches Association (AWHCA) for their academic excellence.

HANCOCK, MICH. — Senior Alisha Ellertson of River Falls is one of three members of the Finlandia University women’s hockey team who were recently honored by the American Women’s Hockey Coaches Association (AWHCA) for their academic excellence.

Ellertson, junior Mariah Mumford of Mt. Pleasant Mich., and Sophomore Kelly Poelstra of Baltimore, Ontario, Canada, were named 2010-2011 National Scholar Athletes.

The National Scholar Athlete Award is given to student-athletes who are in good standing at their institution of choice for one year, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher for a minimum of two academic semesters, and have dressed for 75 percent of their team’s contests.

Ellertson, a senior forward, has a 3.53 cumulative GPA and will graduate with a degree in criminal justice from Finlandia.

Ellertson is a 2006 graduate of River Falls High School and was a member of the very first St. Croix Valley Fusion girls’ hockey team as a senior, when she earned honorable mention to the Wisconsin Girls Hockey Coaches Association All-State Team.

Ellertson led Finlandia in scoring this season and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.
