Letter: Accountable for free speech

It’s true that progressives and left-leaners can be as wild as March hares, but the numbers of right-wing mad hatters are swelling.
Add to this mix, the zealots lathering up their minions with hate language, all the while denying any responsibility for their “free speech.”
What’s worse is that we allow these media hogs to continuously sermonize without calling them out for the distorted proclamations with which they infect our air waves and the Internet.
In the end, they are nothing more than Chicken Littles with gratuitous, often baseless edicts. Unfortunately, there is a plenitude of the misguided who will take those messages as a call to arms — to lash out about the falling sky in any way they can.
And here we are today, left with the calamitous aftermath of a simple “Congress on Your Corner” community outreach event in Arizona.
Free speech gives everyone the right to speak their opinions. However, it also comes with a responsibility to one’s fellow citizens to use this right wisely.
