Though very young when she got sick with myasthenia gravis, and only a high school senior when she died on Dec. 23, 2000, her friends said Abby Timmerman, daughter of Deb Timmerman and Rich Timmerman, packed a lifetime into her 18 years. Many of her friends and family shared their memories of her courage in a front-page story in the Journal this week.

A familiar figure returned to the public library when hometowner Nancy Miller was hired as new director.

Pat Hammarback, owner of custom Framing and Art at 116 W. Walnut St., realized a life’s dream when she opened an art gallery in the back half of the business. Three local artists, Mary Perrizo, Melodie Needham and Jolanda Stammler were providing artwork.

It’s official — Phil Hovde’s archery buck is a new state record. The 11-point rack scored 177 1/8 points, exceeding a whitetail taken by a professional bowhunter in 1975. He took the deer less than a mile outside the city limits on the Gerald and Carol Williams farm.

Fox hunters stumbled on an empty safe northeast of River Falls. A grocery store in Baldwin was robbed of its safe on Dec. 4, and it was suspected this find was connected to that robbery.

Frances Roatch of El Paso announced the engagement of her daughter, Donna Mae, to Eugene J. Andrle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Andrle of River Falls.

Laurence K. Rohl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rohl, enlisted in the U.S. Naval Air Force His brother Robert enlisted four years previously.

River Falls’ dental service was cut when Gordon Emerson left for the Navy, and E. O. Kalk had a serious illness. At the same time the Pierce County draft board announced that all doctors, dentists, and veterinarians were required to register if they were under the age of 51.

Richard Anderson and Victor Kreuziger were among five Pierce County Boy Scouts receiving the Eagle Scout award.
