A 19-year-old local woman was arrested and taken to jail in Ellsworth for for battery to a police officer just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28. Later on Tuesday, in a criminal complaint, the Pierce County district attorney did file three charges against the woman, including one for a felony.

The woman who was charged is Callie L. Wilson.

She allegedly swore at and kicked River Falls patrol officer Mike Nelson in the stomach and chest, and also punched his face during a scuffle in the doorway of her apartment at 405 S. Wasson Lane.

Police Sgt. Jon Aubart said Nelson is doing fine and declined medical attention.

Nelson was responding to a welfare check of an eight-month child at Wilson's South Wasson Lane apartment.

According to the criminal complaint, Wilson first attacked Nelson while still holding her baby.

The request for a welfare check came from the child’s father who does not live with the mother.

Aubart said alcohol use likely factored into the woman’s assault of the police officer. The woman’s child was unharmed during the incident.
