Having watched the debate Friday evening between Senator Russ Feingold and Mr. Ron Johnson, it was easy to see how Feingold won hands down.
His answers to the questions were clear and to the point. Whereas, Mr. Johnson avoided details while failing to actually answer many of the questions.
As an example, Johnson took the long way around to use his daughter’s heart problem as an example of how the health care system worked for him.
What he didn’t mention was how his daughter’s medical bills were paid, nor did he address the actual question about explaining his position on the health care bill. What he also did was obscure the basis of the bill by casting out dire predictions.
Feingold, however, spoke directly to the issue about why he voted for the health care bill, which will prevent those with pre-existing conditions from being rejected by insurance companies, lifts the ceiling on lifetime limits, covers a portion of seniors’ donut-hole expenses, and more.
For issues ranging from stem cell research to Social Security and global warming, Ron Johnson’s vague and simplistic views of how the Senate works portrayed him as a knee-jerk corporate mouthpiece candidate running for an office to which he is not suited.
In contrast, Russ Feingold reinforced his proven track record of working for all of us in Wisconsin.
