River Falls’ senior fullback Nick Zimmerman rushed for 255 yards and four touchdowns as the Wildcats picked up their first win of the season, 30-12, over Ellsworth Friday night at Ramer Field in River Falls.

Zimmerman scored on runs of 24 and 54 in the first half to help stake River Falls to a 14-6 halftime lead and added a pair of 12 yard touchdown runs in the second half as the Wildcats pulled away.

Ellsworth’s first touchdown came on a 4-yard pass from quarterback Bryce Stockwell to Alex Campbell on the last play of the first quarter. The extra point attempt failed and the Wildcats held onto a 7-6 lead.

River Falls led 23-6 when Ellsworth’s Tanner Eggenberger bulled over from two yards out with 10:50 remaining in the fourth quarter. The play capped a 78-yard drive that featured a 21-yard pass from Stockwell to Campbell that moved the ball to the Wildcat 17 yard-line, and a fourth-and-three completion from Stockwell to Caleb Kaufmann to set up Eggenberger’s touchdown run.

Zimmerman’s final touchdown came after the Panthers’ second lost fumble of the game with 1:45 remaining.

Zimmerman finished with 255 yards in 28 carries while Eggenberger led Ellsworth with 84 yards in 27 attempts. Stockwell completed 12-of-22 passes for 138 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.

River Falls evened its record at 1-1 while Ellsworth fell to 0-2.
