The third annual Bontrager Border Battle Mountain Bike Races will take place on Sunday, Aug. 8, on the trails of White Tail Ridge Corporate Park in River Falls.
The event pits racers from the Wisconsin Off Road Series (WORS) and the Minnesota State Championship Series for bragging rights and a traveling trophy. Wisconsin has won the previous two Border Battles, including last year when nearly 700 riders took part.
The Border Battle is the eighth race on both the WORS and MNSCS circuits this season. Racers from each state will be competing for points towards the overall series awards. The trails at White Tail Ridge present a course that is a challenging mix of predominantly single and double track with some areas of wide-open field sections. Additional passing lanes have been added for 2010.
This year’s event begins with a pre-ride Saturday from 12-7 p.m. and a Learn-to-Ride Clinic Saturday from 3-5 p.m. The clinic will provide basic instruction on technique and race preparation with a course ride-through.
A 5K and 10K trail run, hosted by the local mountain trail organization, Kinnickinnic Off Road Cyclist (KORC) will be held Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Bike races, which will vary in length from 5 miles for juniors to 25 miles for pros, will begin Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
A Kids Race, for riders age 10 and under, will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. A complete schedule of the weekend’s events can be found online at www.wors.org.
Concessions will be available Sunday.
The city of River Falls is once again helping local organizer Adam Schmidt by preparing the grounds, providing tables and street barricades, and allowing the use of the corporate park property.
