Gene Clay, 82

James "Gene" E. Clay, age 82, of River Falls, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Comforts of Home, River Falls.

Gene was born on Sept. 6, 1927 in Snappsburg, Minn., the son of Cecil and Mary (Hessmen) Clay. He served in the United State Air Force, and on August 30, 1947, he married Petra Pulido. Petra died in June 1997. Gene worked at various jobs throughout his working career, primarily as a truck driver for Citgo Oil Co., and as owner of River Falls Mini Storage.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time with his friends at The WestWind.

Gene is survived by his sons, Richard (Deloria) Clay, St. Paul, Minn., Ronald Clay, Oregon, Wis.; five grandchildren, Clint Clay, Eric Clay, Matt Hedlund, Rhonda Jensen, and Aaron Clay; two brothers and one sister, Pete (Della) Clay, Mary (Steve) DeMers, Roy (Jenny) Clay.

His wife, Petra; grandson, Jonathan; parents; brothers and sisters Francis, Emmet, Kenneth, Earl, Phyllis, John and Clare preceded him in death.

Mass of Christian Burial was 10 a.m. Friday, July 23, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, River Falls. Fr. Gerald Harris officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home, River Falls, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Military honors provided by Fletcher-Pechacek Am. Legion Post #121, River Falls.
